David A. Thompson

David A. Thompson retired as deputy chairman and chief executive officer of Teck Cominco Ltd. on April 27, 2005. He has held this position since August 2001 following the formal merger of Teck Corporation and Cominco Ltd. Previously, Thompson was co-managing director of Messina (Transvaal) prior to joining Teck Corporation in 1980 and has held a variety of senior management positions, including president and chief executive officer of Cominco from 1995 to 2001. Thompson graduated in 1960 from the London School of Economics, England with a B.Sc. in economics. In 1976, he completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. Thompson was a director of Teck Corporation from 1980 until his retirement from the Board in 2007. He is a director of the Board of Fording (GP) ULC and GCT Global Container Terminals Inc., Chair of Vancouver Coastal Health, was co-chair of the BC Competition Council, and currently sits on the BC Progress Board.
